do not mention the war

Walls

The Fall of the Berlin Wall signaled a false dawn as we are in fact surrounded by walls, physically, mentally and electronically.

Ever since the end of the Cold War caused by several events in Eastern Europe and symbolized by the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989, we hoped to see the blossoming of personal freedom without walls. The end of the Cold War meant the final curtain of a divided planet in east and west, though the world as we know is still divided between north and south and rich and poor. Moreover, the gap between these is widening.

Increasingly, the world is divided again in various ways. The Economist has produced a chart that shows all kinds of walls that are being build or were just completed
bordersThe Berlin Wall fell 26 years ago today yet the age of the wall is no thing of the past. In fact, walls are increasingly en vogue again. Cynically, those countries that claim for themselves to be progressive and inspired by humanism are those at the front building new walls.
