Football in Terezin – A Personal Experience

In History on March 3, 2015 at 09:00

This is the name of a documentary about football in Terezin, a town that was the place of a Jewish Ghetto during the Second World War. This documentary is the story of a league organized in the ghetto by the inhabitants between 1942 and 1944.
It began with the discovery of a paper clipping by Oded Breda who spotted his uncle running out onto a pitch for a game. He asked his uncle why he has been silent about this particular experience. Breda further discovered a documentary produced by the Nazis about the ‘cultural affairs’ inside the Ghetto. It turns out that football was an important part of Ghetto life. In this most of disturbing circumstances football was the vehicle for joy and relaxation. A bitter fact.
This inspired him to undertake further research. The result is this documentary.
The DVD is available via the contact page of Liga Terezin.
